Zero Waste Cause Spotlight Week 2

Welcome back to Zero Waste Cause Spotlight. Today we are going to be talking to Jordan from EndFoodWaste.orgEnd Food Waste

Q: Jordan, Tell us a little about you.

A: I am a Writer, Speaker and Anti-Food Waste Activist from Castro Valley. I co-chaired the successful Zero Food Waste Forum and managed the groundbreaking Feeding the 5000 Oakland in October 2014, I also created and manage the successful Ugly Fruit And Veg Campaign that changes people’s perceptions of produce and engages people all around the world on reducing wasted food.

Q: Lets talk more about the Ugly Fruits and Veg Campaign. For those who might not have heard about it, What is this campaign about?

end food wasteA: The Ugly Fruit and Veg campaign shares funny, beautiful and amazing images of less than perfect produce in order to highlight the 20-40% of all produce that goes to waste due mostly to strict grocer cosmetic standards. On Twitter, Instagram, We Heart It and Facebook the campaign has a monthly reach in the millions from over 180,000 followers in more than 190 countries around the world. The campaign also shares news, events, tips and resources to prevent wasted food and rescue food for those in need.

Q: How can we join this campaign?

A:  The #DemandUgly Toolkit is a great place to start. Follow @UglyFruitAndVeg on Twitter, Like our Facebook page The Ugly Food And Veg Campaign. We are also on  WeHeartIt and Instagram. Share images, search out “different” produce at supermarkets, markets, farmers markets or wherever you find them. Ask your favorite grocers to sell “ugly” produce and check out my current petitions to Albertsons, Target and Walmart at www.UglyFruitAndVeg.org

Q: I heard about #LoveFoodRescue, Could you tell us about it?

end food wasteA: I wrote a blog on this campaign  Declare Your Love For Food Rescue This Valentine’s Day. Saving extra food for those in need. You can volunteer, donate, and join in the #LoveFoodRescue movement by using the Food Rescue Locator to find organizations to support in your area. There has been an amazing expansion of organizations rescuing food in the U.S. over the last 5-10 years and it’s mostly on the backs of volunteers and donations.

Tell supermarkets, restaurants, food processors, and others that you love food rescue and they should too. And say it loud across social media:

I Heart Food Rescue and you should too! Find out more at www.FoodRescueLocator.com. #LoveFoodRescue

Q: What is next for you?

A: I am going to be keynote speaker at the Washington State Recycling Association Annual Conference in Pasco, Washington on May 8, 2017  and also at the 5th Annual Zero Waste Youth USA Conference in San Francisco, California on March 19, 2017. I’ve also got some other things in the works so stay tuned!

Q: Thank you so much for joining us today

A: Anytime, thanks for covering this important topic!
